the soft, heavy blanket of a rainy morning
waking at dawn and untangling our fingers, i creep out of bed for a couple hours of calm, inactive solitude- the kind without the clanging of metal or music or the weight of afternoon hours
after stretching, coffee, dishes, eggs, emails… i hear him call my name from the bedroom, ordering my presence
when I arrive, he pulls me close, puts his mouth to my ear to whisper “I love you.”
I smile into his neck as he falls back into sleep.
